Originally from Brantford, Ontario, Stevens brings a strong
background in both playing and coaching. He played five seasons of
university hockey, beginning at Mercyhurst University (NCAA
Division I) from 2012–2014, and finishing at Carleton University
(OUA – U Sports) from 2014–2017. His junior career included time
with the Hamilton Red Wings and Burlington Cougars (OJHL),
Youngstown Phantoms (USHL), and Pembroke Lumber Kings (CCHL).
At the conclusion of his university career, Stevens played
professionally with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs of the SPHL,
appearing with the team at the end of the 2016-17 season.
Following his playing career, he transitioned into coaching in
2017. He spent six seasons with the University of Guelph,
including two years as Assistant Coach and four as Associate Head
Coach. During his time there, he helped lead the team to
back-to-back OUA Western Conference Championships in 2018-19 and
2019-20, as well as the OUA Queen’s Cup Championship in 2019-20.
Most recently, Stevens served as Associate Head Coach at the
University of Ottawa from 2023 to 2025, where he was instrumental
in helping the program capture its first-ever U Sports National
Championship in the 2024-25 season.
Justin made the transition to pro hockey this past season and is
currently serving as the Asst.Coach/Asst. Dir. of Hockey
Operations for the Pensacola Ice Flyers in the Southern
Professional Hockey League.
Justin and his wife Kelsey have a son, Remington, born in 2023.
